METADATA QUESTIONNAIRE 2(1) The fiscal year in Afghanistan is based on the solar calendar which starts on March 20 and ends on March 19. All the figures provided in this survey are based on the solar calendar. Therefore, year 2011 stands for March 2011 - March 2012. (2) The number of depositors is greater than the number of deposit accounts because the zero balance accounts are excluded from the number of deposit accounts while the number of depositors includes the depositors which have zero balances, most of which are ministry employees with salary accounts. (3) The number of borrowers is greater than the number of loan accounts because of the way banks record group loans. In the list of borrowers each member of a group loan is included as a borrower, while in the number of loan accounts a group loan is taken as one loan account. (4) Credit unions and financial cooperatives, deposit taking microfinance institutions (MFIs), other deposit takers, other financial intermediaries (OFIs), non-deposit taking MFIs, and other OFIs do not exist nor are being supervised by a national regulator in Afghanistan. (5) Mobile money services became available in the country in 2009. (6) Mobile money agents can reflect a person, shop, bank branch, corporation or machine, which facilitates mobile money account registrations, transactions, and provides other support (7) E-money institutions (EMIs) maintained only the mobile money agents that were active, therefore, the figures for registered and active agent outlets are equivalent.(1) The fiscal year in Afghanistan is based on the solar calendar which starts on March 20 and ends on March 19.
